Southern Meets Soul-An American Gospel Jubilee
What a legacy for the great guitarist Nokie Edwards of The Ventures and The Light Crust Doughboys --Nokie who just passed away this March. Nokie's two Grammy-recognized works are in Gospel, and what Gospel albums they are. This masterwork--and also Selectohits' 20th CENTURY GOSPEL title. The master Nokie Edwards, expertly produced here by his music disciple Art Greenhaw, pulls out all of his Ventures' stops to execute the most exciting, twangiest guitar heard on a Gospel record. And Nokie rips it up on not only electric guitar but also acoustic guitar. Tremendous heaven-sent vocals by The Jordanaires and The Light Crust Doughboys starring Art Greenhaw himself. CMT, Country Music Television, picked this album during the Grammy Week sweepstakes as the album that they said "should win" the Grammy--and "would win" the Grammy. Looks like this album-of-the-decade came in second, appears it was out-block-voted by the big, major label that was behind the top vote-getter, but the bottom line is: this album has reached cult status as one of the greatest Gospel albums ever recorded. Run-don't-walk to add this to your collection, especially now that the great Nokie Edwards is playing guitar with the Saints. Every song is a stand-out including Samson and Delilah, Dare to be Brave, Keep Looking Up, Blessed Are You, Take Care of my Mother.
