Cookhouse is Sophie Enloe on fiddle, Maggie Lind on banjo, and Patrick Lind on guitar, a Portland, Oregon trio devoted to the old time string band tradition. The trio’s sound grows out of Portland’s long-standing old time music scene, home to influential groups like Foghorn Stringband and the Horsenecks. In this community, dance tunes, late-night sessions, and a strong musical culture have shaped generations of musicians.
The three met in 2002, when Sophie was still in high school, and have spent over twenty years playing knee-toknee in jams, dances, festivals, and living rooms. In 2007, they founded the Portland String Band Class, which has helped hundreds of musicians learn tunes by ear and build community around old time music.
Their debut album, Lately Tuned, captures that long friendship in sound, offering a mix of traditional tunes, songs, and original compositions with the ease and warmth of musicians who have been making music together for a very long time.
