Joseph Vernon "Big Joe" Turner was known as a blue shouter aka Big Joe Turner and was known as the king of jump Blues. He was born in Kansas City Missouri in 1911. His carrier lasted for some seven decades until his passing in 1985. his recordings today are as fresh today as they were in the 40's and 50's as his style has endured. In his lifetime, he performed with the likes of Count Basie's orchestra after Jimmy Rushing left. While working at the famous Apollo Theater, he came to the attention of a new label Atlantic Records and was signed to a contract, and recorded such Blues standards as "Chains of Love" and "Sweet Sixteen." He also recorded for National Records, Decca Records, Vocalion, Pablo Records and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
He is remembered for "Roll Em Pete," "Chains of Love," "Honey Hush," "Shake Rattle and Roll," "Flip, Flop and Fly," Corrine, Corrina," "Wee Baby Blues," "Love Roller Coaster" and "Midnight Special. Turner's career endured from the bar rooms of Kansas City in the 1920's to European Jazz festivals of the 1980's.
