Dark Horse Pale Rider (LP)

Dark Horse Pale Rider is the fourth studio album from Colorado underground Americana legend Joe Johnson. Recorded during the 2020 Covid lockdown, this album contains songs that strike the very heart and soul of the listener and present its enigmatic creator in his most intimate light.

Like Nick Drake’s “Pink Moon” or Blaze Foley’s “Duct Tape Messiah”, Dark Horse Pale Rider’s stripped down approach of guitar and vocal present these songs of love, loss, isolation and observation in their truest form, allowing the lyrical storytelling to shine through. Initially released in 2021, the album was soon picked up by independent radio DJ’s in Europe and then South America and Australia, resulting in thousands of new listeners as well as a short run of vinyl records which sold out in weeks.

This year, Joe Johnson’s Dark Horse Pale Rider has been rereleased with a second vinyl pressing with Gitcha Records.

Joe Johnson has spent the last two decades refining his unique talent for striking at the heart of the listener with deeply personal lyrics and storytelling. His songwriting hits the rest of the body with a mix of Texas shuffles, Country Blues embedded in his southern Mississippi roots, and the sounds of Pop, Rock, and Soul music he grew up influenced by.
