Multi-instrumentalist Clinton Davis grew up in rural Carroll County, Kentucky, and during his college years at the University of Kentucky, studied classical piano and played guitar in rock bands. Dancing to Lee Sexton's banjo in Letcher County really flipped a switch in his brain, and he felt the old-time music bug in a way he hadn't felt in any music before, moving shortly thereafter to Southern California and joining the burgeoning community of West Coast musicians redefining “traditional” music. Clinton quickly established himself as a keeper of the flame of old-me music, while at the same tome forging a new path of exploration of these songs and tunes through his instrumental virtuosity. On Ever Returning, Clinton’s sophomore album and musical tour-de-force, he is joined by banjoist Tim McNally and mandolin/guitar player Ryan Finch, on a sonic journey and exploration of time through music.
In Clinton’s own words; “My new album, Ever Returning, weaves together old ballads, banjo and fiddle dances, blues, ragtime, and esoteric Americana into a sonically beautiful meditation on the passage of time.”
That is indeed Clinton Davis… a timeless student of traditional Americana, filtered through Carroll County Kentucky tradition, Southern California, and beyond. This is Americana music at its finest, music that is always “ever returning.”
