In Nokie Edwards (of The Ventures) and Art Greenhaw's (of The Light Crust Doughboys) second album journey into the wonderful world of Christmas, these two creators and tasty guitarists-arrangers have taken familiar Christmas carols and holiday melodies and even spiritual themes and have wrapped them up in a rockin' 50s-60s-70s-style instrumental Pop package that surfs quite a bit harder than their previous Christmas Folk outings.
Reviewers like Ventures Resurgence Magazine have called this an essential, classic, "combo Christmas" album for collectors, and Nokie pulls out his legendary, warm, fuzz lead guitar tones of the early 1960s Ventures' albums on several cuts. Fans will have a ball naming the traditional Christmas and Gospel tunes upon which many of these new arrangements are based. There are newly-christened versions of "Silent Night," "O Come All Ye Faithful," "Go Tell It On The Mountain," What Child Is This" and several more all sprinkled with surf, twang and hot-buttered fuzz.
A 5-star, masterwork album for lovers of instrumental guitar, Rock n' Roll ballads and Christmas cheer. Just a sprinkling of acoustics and unplugged sounds make this album a crossover into Folk and Country Gospel.
